ABOUT

The City Council is an elected legislative body with authority to pass municipal ordinances, budgets, declarations, proclamations, and set local tax rates. The City of Hooks Council consists of 5 Council Members and 1 Mayor who are elected at large, which means they represent the entire city. The City Council enacts laws and promotes the safety of its citizens. Each position is a two-year term. After each election, the Council selects a fellow Council Member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.

City Council meetings are held on the third Monday of each month in the Council Chambers located at 603 East Avenue A beginning at 6:00PM.  If the third Monday falls on a government recognized holiday the meeting will be held the following Tuesday @ 6:00 p.m.

Each meeting will follow an agenda. The agenda is created by the Mayor. The last day to file to be on the agenda is the Monday prior to the Council Meeting night. This must be given to the City Secretary by 4:30PM. For more information, please contact Cynthia Norton @ 903-547-2261.

Agendas are posted on the Friday before each Council Meeting by 6PM.

If you wish to speak concerning an item listed on the agenda or an item not listed on the agenda, you may sign up for public comments/open forum prior to the meeting start time to voice your concern. The Council will not address you during this time, they will only listen.
